Empathy & Intelligence Director
April 2016 - December 2017
In a unique position at the Moonshot Innovation Lab at Barkley, I conducted design research for projects ranging from interactive digital displays for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to the reinvention of a new health care brand for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City. This work included the facilitation of focus groups, ethnographic field work, contextual inquiries, qualitative interviews and experimental forms of insight generation. In addition, I created and conducted cultural initiatives including empathy training classes, internal studies on creativity, and exploratory research on consumer evolution.

Diving into the agency’s work with Google, I pitched, executed, and presented qualitative research and brand strategy in order to inform creative campaigns for Google Fiber, Google Partners and Google Domains. For many projects I acted as project manager, account planner, user researcher, copywriter, facilitator and creative lead. Alongside client work big and small, I developed and implemented internal processes for creative brainstorming, conflict resolution, and communications.

December 2012 - July 2013
This temporary residency focused on a project for the International Code Council. Our challenge was to translate a highly complex live voting process into a web experience. My UX partner and I traveled the US interviewing stakeholders and documenting the procedure in order to design an effective experience. In addition to the ICC project, I led Design Cloud’s research and communications for branding and design projects.

September 2011 - August 2012
Over the course of two research projects for Haworth, the furniture giant, our team made product recommendations and future design projections based on observational research. I led recruiting, conducted field work, and did the first-run analysis of the behavior and values of users in the United States and Canada. For other clients, I did UX research, wrote copy and facilitated client workshops and internal brainstorms.
